  4. Take 1 ltr milk
  5. Get as required Walnut and salted kaju(slightly crushed)
  6. Get 1 tbsp cornstarch

Sutlijaš or sutlijash is a sweet, cinnamon-flavored rice pudding typical of the Balkans and Turkey. It is very interesting to note that, since ancient Roman times, a simple mixture made of rice and milk, which was used to settle upset stomachs has gradually evolved as an omnipresent dish that is enjoyed throughout the world. Cook, uncovered, until almost all the water is absorbed. We call it sutlac in Turkish and there are two main versions of sweet rice pudding in Turkish cuisine; Oven Baked Rice Pudding and stove cooked rice pudding.

Steps to make Turkish Rice Pudding - Sutlac(chocolate version):
  1. First wash the rice. In a pan add water and cook the rice or you can take already cooked rice. Till all the water is absorbed and the rice become sticky and smashed.
  2. Then crush the nuts a little. Add milk to the rice. Let it boil for 5 min. Then add the sugar. Cook till the sugar melts. Now in a bowl take cornstarch add milk to it. Mix it and put it in the milk. Keep stiring continously till it becomes thick.
  3. Now add the chopped chocolate and half of the dry fruits. Mix it. Then put it in small containers. In a pan add water, place a stand and then put the small containers. Cover the lid and then steam it for 20 min. Let it cool. Garnish it with the remaining dry fruits and gratted chocolate. Put it in the fridge. For 2-3 hrs and then serve. In the original recipe it is baked with egg and served hot.

Oven baked version is a bit more difficult, but it's worth. Its slightly burned top is to die for! This one doesn't have many varieties unlike the one cooked on stove. A cool and creamy treat perfect for anytime of day!. Sprinkled with some ground cinnamon, it makes a delightful dessert to enjoy any time of the day.
