It is a vegetarian-friendly meal eaten in most parts of West Africa and Brazil. Though it's origin is said to be from the Yoruba tribe of Nigeria but somehow it has found its way to the hearts of other west African. Bean cakes/bean balls/bean fritas/akara is a Nigerian food made from beans puree, spiced with pepper and onions and deep fried to perfection. The Yoruba's call Nigerian bean cakes Akara, while the Hausa tribe calls it Kosai.

Steps to make Beans Cake (Akara):
  1. Soak the beans in water for 15 minutes, removed from water and put them inside a mortar, pound gently to remove the cover, put the beans in a bowl to wash, after washing, grind the beans, slice onion into the grinded beans, add salt and maggi to taste. stir it very well.
  2. Put your groundnut oil on fire, allow it to hot very well, then use small spoon to cut the mixed beans into the fire. allow to cook for 5 minutes then remove from the oil. Beans Cake is ready, so delicious, you can give it a trial.

It also goes by the name Acarajé/ Koose in Ghana or Acarajé in Portuguese. The bean paste came together quickly and the colourful and tasteful fried bean cakes (akara) fried up in less time. I heated up the oil while I was mixing the beans paste. Scooping all the little balls of beans paste into the hot oil did not take much time and the outcome was just amazing.
