Bread halwa is a variation of halwa made with bread slices. To make bread halwa, bread cubes are first fried or roasted in ghee and later cooked with milk and sugar. Basically, the preparation of bread halwa is similar to the way most halwa are made. Bread Halwa is a dessert that is famous in the Indian cuisine, known for its impeccable taste and alluring aroma.

Bread Halwa is one of the most popular of recent trending foods on earth. It’s appreciated by millions daily. It’s easy, it is quick, it tastes delicious. They’re nice and they look wonderful. Bread Halwa is something which I’ve loved my whole life.

To begin with this recipe, we have to first prepare a few components. You can have bread halwa using 9 ingredients and 9 steps. Here is how you can achieve that.

The ingredients needed to make Bread Halwa:
  1. Take 7 Unsalted Bread Slice
  2. Prepare 200 gm Sugar
  3. Make ready 400 ml Water
  4. Prepare as needed Oil (for deep frying)
  5. Make ready 3 tbsp Ghee
  6. Make ready 10-15 Cashew Nuts
  7. Prepare 7-10 Badam/Almonds
  8. Prepare 7-10 Raisins/Dry grapes
  9. Prepare 2-3 Cardamom/Elachi

Bread halwa is one of the most popular dessert from hyderabadi cuisine. We get to see this mostly in Hyderabadi or Andhra restaurants served in a hyderabadi meal. It is delicious, mouth melting and unique in its aroma and taste. However one can find a few different variations of this any where from light to quite heavy and dense in its texture.

Steps to make Bread Halwa:
  1. Slice the breads into small cubes and deep fry it, until it turns golden brown. Keep the stove in medium flame to avoid burning of the bread slices. Note: Healthy alternative - wheat bread
  2. Now in a pan, add 200g sugar and 400ml water. Wait for the sugar to melt and let the water to reach it's boiling state. You need not wait for any sting consistency. Note: 1.Instead of water, you can choose milk as an alternative. Milk also gives you a richer consistency. I just experimented with water. Not to lie, the Halwa tasted yummy 2. Healthy alternative: Brown sugar/Jaggery powder
  3. After 2 or 3 minutes of boiling add in the fried bread slices to the syrup and make them soak into the syrup
  4. Now in a small frying pan, add 3 tbsp ghee and roast the cashews, almonds and raisins. Wait until it turns slighty golden brown and switch off the flame.Note: If you have butter, you can also use melted butter.
  5. After few minutes, the bread slices would have sucked in all the sugar syrup. If you want your Bread Halwa to have bread chunks, give it a gentle mix.Don't mix it hard.
  6. Now add the roasted dry fruits along with ghee and give it a gentle mix.Note: I have limited the ghee to 3 tbsp, since the bread was deep fried. There will be a separation of oil from the bread slices as well. If you want it to have more ghee, you can add more.
  7. Now add the cardamom and mix it gently.
  8. Wait for the added ghee and oil to separate out from the Halwa(probably 5minutes) and the halwa will not stick to the pan. If you reach this level, switch off the stove.
  9. You can serve it hot or cool it down to room tempature and have it. A delicious and yummy bread halwa is ready.

Bread - White Milk Bread is the best when we are making this Halwa. You can try sweet buns or other Bread which includes Whole Wheat or even Brown Bread. Ghee - Ghee adds to the taste and richness of this Halwa and makes it smell heavenly. Nuts - I have added only Cashews and Almonds, but you can add more such as Raisins, Pistachios, Walnuts, etc. Bread Halwa is an easy-to-make sweet dish traditionally prepared in Hyderabadi cuisine and is truly delicious.
