Semiya Payasam is a popular dessert for lunch made by south Indians for all festivals like Tamil new year and Onam. No south indian meal is complete without a sweet ending of. I was going through my pantry and found a can of condensed milk, the original purpose of the purchase forgotten! I wanted to use it for something and since I was planning on making this dessert, I decided to try it.

Instructions to make Vermicelli/Seviyan Kheer (Semiya Payasam):
  1. Heat ghee in a heavy bottomed pan.
  2. Add vermicelli and roast till slightly brown. Remove from pan and keep aside.
  3. Add milk in a pan and let it come to a boil.
  4. Add the roasted vermicelli to the milk and reduce the heat to low.
  5. Cook on low heat for 15 to 20 mins till the vermicellis are soft.
  6. Add sugar and cardamom powder and cook for another minute. Off the flame.
  7. Garnish with chopped almonds, cashewnuts, walnuts & dates.
  8. Serve warm or else you can chill it in the refrigerator and serve cold.
