  6. Make ready 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Apples and pears are tossed in sugar and spices, then used to fill a cream cheese-butter shortcrust pastry case, before being baked to perfection. Enjoy with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for dessert. This moreish, French-style, fruity treat is finished with a distinctive rum and star anise glaze. Rinse apples and pears, cut in very thin slices and press halfway into the vanilla pudding.

Steps to make Thin Apple and Pear Tart:
  1. Heat oven to 200 or 210 C.
  2. Slice apples and pears, saute in a pan, add a bit of water, sugar and cinnamon and bowl in low heat for 2-5 minutes.
  3. Roll out the pastry into a disc. Brush the edge of pastry with water and fold the edges in all around at 2cm. Prick the inside of the tart with a fork.
  4. Place the sliced apples and pears inside the raised edges of the tart evenly. Bake for 18-22 minutes or until well cook.
  5. While waiting for the tart to be ready, melt cherry jam (you can use whatever jam you prefer) in low heat.
  6. Remove tart from the oven and brush jam over the tart generously. Then place back into the oven for 2-5 minutes.
  7. Remove tart from over and serve hot or warm or cold.

This ultimate fall and winter tart showcases the best fruits of the season: pears, apples and cranberries. Unlike other tarts, the tarte tatin is made upside down in a skillet. You start by cooking the fruit, then top it with the dough, carefully tuck in the edges and let it cook. Cut peeled and cored apples/pears into thin slices.
